This portrait bench in Beckets Park Northampton was officially opened by Sustrans on August 29th 2013. It features figures of the poet John Clare, architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh and businessman Wenman Joseph Bassett-Lowke. All three were chosen as popular local figures in a public vote. Mackintosh was the designer of 78 Derngate, the nearby home of Bassett-Lowke. Remodelled in 1916, it is Mackintosh’s only significant architectural work in England. Now restored and open to the public; it is an award winning attraction with stunning interiors that welcomes visitors from around the world.
